“PLEASE RELEASE ME AND LET ME GO”

harriet-tubman1“I had reasoned this out in my mind, there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other.” Mother Harriet Tubman

I am dedicating all of my remaining posts this year to Black African American females because a race can rise no higher than its’ females.

As in all of my posts, UNDERLINED WORDS are links.

Clip ArtLast month I delivered the keynote address at the sixth annual Augusta Coalition Addiction Recovery Awareness (ACARA) dinner. When the executive director of ACARA, Mr. Ken Wilson asked me to provide the keynote address, he specifically requested that I speak on “Human/Sex Trafficking.”

As providence would have it, I had recently attended the 37th Annual Cross Cultural Conference where I heard Mrs. Shirley McClerklin-Motley, the Program Coordinator for the Social Work Department at Coker College give an excellent presentation on “Domestic Child Sex Trafficking” in the state of South Carolina.

ATL CapitalAs I always say, anything you want to know is just a keystroke away, so I stroked the keys on my keyboard, allowing my fingers to go searching. To my amazement, there was a bevy of information on “Human/Sex Trafficking” focusing specifically on the state of Georgia in general and Georgia’s capital Atlanta, in particular.

With shock and awe, I was dumbfounded when all of the data/research that I encountered said that Atlanta, Georgia is the “Human/Sex Trafficking” capital of America. Hold this thought right here, as I define both “Human Trafficking” and “Sex Trafficking.”

Neo SlaveryHuman Traffickingis the act of compelling or coercing a person’s labor, services, or commercial sex acts; or using children under the age of 18 for commercial sex acts. The coercion can be subtle or overt, physical or psychological, but it must be used to coerce a victim into performing labor, services, or commercial sex acts.”

Sex Trafficking “is the use of force, coercion or deception to recruit, entice, harbor, transport, provide, obtain, or maintain, another person for the purpose of commercial sexual activities. If the victim is a minor under age 18, force, coercion and deception is not required in cases of sex trafficking.”

Contrary to what most of us think, “Human/Sex Trafficking” is not new to America in general and the South in particular. “Human/Sex Trafficking” began in the United States before the states were united. In order for the plantation-based agricultural economy to flourish in the South, it was dependent upon a steady flow of cheap labor on a very large scale.

I S ContractPoor European White men, women, and children from England, Scotland and Ireland initially filled this need for cheap labor. In order to escape their impoverished existence, these poor people would voluntarily agree to become Indentured Servants” for a period of 4 to 7 years for the price of passage and room and board upon arriving to the New World.

An exception to volunteering as “Indentured Servants” occurred in 1619. Dutch pirates kidnapped 19 Africans from the Spanish & brought them to Jamestown, Va. and traded them for provisions. Since the Spanish had baptized these Africans, they could not become slaves because it was illegal for British subjects to enslave Christians.

Prior to 1640, Virginia had no laws regarding slavery therefore it was a gradual transformation of turning Africans into slaves. Consequently, these 19 Africans immediately became “Indentured Servants” and sold to the highest bidder. Just like the White Europeans, after serving 7 years, once released they were given land, westward of the original settlement.

Indentured servitude fulfilled a dual purpose of meeting the needs of cheap labor and populating the colonies. However, due to the explosion of the plantation system indentured servitude could not satisfy these demands.

John PunchOn July 9, 1640, “Human/Sex Trafficking” officially began in the colonies with the punishment of three runaway indentured servants.  Their owner Hugh Gwyn (a White man) captured these three indentured servants, (two Whites who were named Victor and James and one Black named John Punch) and all three was given a sentence of 30 lashes each. In addition, the two Whites were to serve their master, Hugh Gwyn for an additional year and at the completion of this servitude, both were to serve the colony of Virginia for three additional years.

For some unknown reason John Punch was ordered to serve Hugh Gwyn or his assigns for the rest of his natural life. Therefore, he became the first legalized Black African slave in the British colonies.

Anthony Johnson picThe second Black African enslaved in the British colonies was John Casor. The irony was, Anthony Johnson, another Black African enslaved him. Initially John Casor was the indentured servant of Anthony Johnson, who himself was a former indentured servant.

When it came time for Anthony Johnson to release John Casor he refused. Along came Robert Parker (a White man) who told John Casor that all he had to do to gain his freedom was to leave, which is what he did.  John Casor then signed on to become Robert Parker’s indentured servant.

Anthony Johnson had a hissy-fit and sued Robert Parker in the North Hampton Court in 1664. The court ruled in 1665 that Anthony Johnson could hold John Casor indefinitely, thus John Casor became the second permanent slave in the colonies.

Va Slave CodeThe law of karma will right all wrongs and to the chagrin of Anthony Johnson and his heirs, Virginia enacted the slave codes in 1705, drastically reducing the rights of all free Blacks. Therefore, the heirs of Anthony Johnson had to flee the state, leaving all of their possessions behind (including their slaves) or risk being enslaved themselves.

With the passage of Virginia’s slave codes, “Human/Sex Trafficking” in the Americas was given a green light which is still green even to this day.

13th AmendmentThe laws against “Human/Sex Trafficking” are rooted in the prohibition against slavery and involuntary servitude guaranteed by the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

White SlaveryWith the abolition of American Slavery, “Human/Sex Trafficking” became known as, “White Slavery,” because initially European White women were being trafficked into the Middle East.

The “Mann Act” of 1920 was passed by Congress to protect White American women from sexual exploitation and slavery. It became a felony to transport White women and girls across state lines for immoral purposes like prostitution.

Head StandBack to Atlanta aka “Hot-lanta,” because of its “sexy nightlife.” A report, conducted by Washington D.C.’s Urban Institute for the U.S. Justice Department, looked at the sex trade in eight major American cities and found that Atlanta had the largest sex trade.

Atlanta ValuesIn other words, Atlanta, Ga. is America’s Sex Trafficking Capital .Atlanta’s sex trade rose from $232 million to $290 million in only five years.

ATL Sex Drugs GunsIn comparison, $290 million is more than the revenue generated by metro Atlanta’s illegal drug and gun trafficking combined.

What is the culprit?

Freaknik Falcons GameMega FestThe many sporting, civic events and conventions in Atlanta bring tens of thousands of amoral people to town weekly with lots of time and money.

Stacks of CashLas Vegas is named Sin City, while Atlanta is aka. Sex City.”  According to FBI statistics, Atlanta ranks #1 among the top 14 cities in the United States for domestic sex trafficking of minors. Approximately five hundred girls and boys from across the country/world are lured into Atlanta’s sex trafficking every month.

13 Year OldIn spite of international laws, the United Nations says human trafficking is a $32 billion per year business. The victims include run away children, low-wage women and illegal immigrants.   For them, the chance of their escaping is very slim and the odds of rescuing them, is even slimmer.

Average Age These children, many under the age of 12, are captured, and flown to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport from different cities and countries and met by pimps. This is where their hell on earth begins.

Love and Hip HopFurthermore, Atlanta has become the Hollywood of the South.”  According to Wikipedia, Georgia’s film industry ranks fourth in the nation, behind California, New York and Texas. Because of this, many young aspiring actors find it easier getting to Atlanta than the other film capitals. Once in Atlanta, they fall easy prey to the pimps and sexual predators.

OnlineFinding sex is just one key-stroke away and you can just “charge it.” The big three credit card companies, MasterCard, Visa and American Express, are prohibiting cardholders from using credit cards for adult ads on the classified advertising website Backpage.com

Backpage.com, is the second largest ad listing website in the U.S. after Craigslist and the authorities and anti-trafficking advocates have accused Backpage.com and others of allowing the sex trafficking of minors through these adult Web pages.

Caution: Do not go to this site because it is being monitored by law enforcement!!!

Hartsfield Jackson AirportThese pedophiles can place their perverted orders online, fly into Atlanta’s airport and be picked up by pimps and taken to hotels where their enslaved victims are waiting. Within two to three hours of arrival, they can fly back to their suburban homes in time for dinner with their wife and children.

Jared FogleSubway “Sex Trafficker” Jared Fogle  became an international “Sex Trafficker.” He is quoted as saying, “The younger, the better.” Therefore, he repeatedly flew to Thailand to have sex with six year-old babies. Evidence against him included more than 150,000 text messages and tens of thousands of photos and videos.

James and Sandra Davis Sandra Davis Wayne BeardenIn 2008, James & Sandra Davis of Macon, Ga. bought a used 1998 Dodge Minivan from Wayne Bearden. In lieu of sending their $281.00 per month payments, they sent their twelve year old daughter to Bearden every month for two years as payment.

NAMBLAMany pedophiles want to abolish the age of consent to allow adults to have sex freely with prepubescent children, arguing that these babies can consent.  One such group is “North American Man/Boy Love Association” or NAMBLA for short.

Buying SexGeorgia Law

HB 200 went into effect on July 1, 2011, and the punishment now fits the crime. HB 200:

  • Substantially increases the punishment for human trafficking from a possible one-year sentence to a minimum of ten years. If the trafficking causes a minor to commit sex acts by coercion or deception, human traffickers now face 25 years to life in prison,
  • Takes the important step of not allowing the age of consent (16) or the lack of knowledge of the age of the victim to be used as a defense.
  • Authorizes asset forfeiture for property derived from or used in trafficking
  • Provides training for law enforcement.
  • Makes victims of human trafficking eligible for victim compensation for the serious mental and emotional trauma they experience.

Crying ChildPlease share this post with everyone you know because all of our babies/children are at risk of becoming a “sex slave.” I am available to provide a “Human/Sex Trafficking” workshop/presentation to your church or civic group.
